Yes, Asia Can Rock Too: An Interview With Indonesia’s My Like Sunday

By Staff | December 30, 2025

My Like Sunday is a punk rock/pop-punk band from Indonesia, formed in January 2020 in the city of Palembang. The band consists of D’Coky (guitar, vocals, Bagus (guitar), Fatrin Budiman (bass), and Aditz (drums). In 2020, My Like Sunday recorded and digitally released their debut single titled “Mati Atau Bertahan”, followed by their second single “Punk Love Story” and their third single “4th”, which was released along with an official music video. In 2022, My Like Sunday independently recorded and released an EP titled The End. The EP contains five tracks: “Mati Atau Bertahan,” “4th,” “Punk Love Story,” “Segitiga Berdahak,” and “The End.” The song “Mati Atau Bertahan” helped My Like Sunday gain wider recognition and led to live performance opportunities, including appearances at music events such as Soundsation. In 2025, My Like Sunday released their latest single titled “Kami Masih Ada”.

Welcome! Taking it back to your formation in January 2020, what was the specific event, moment or though between the four of you that convinced you three to form the band?

Due to the pandemic in 2020, we were finally able to realize the formation of the band My Like Sunday. To channel our thoughts in this band.

"Mati Atau Bertahan" was the track that really broke the ice for the band. Looking back now, what do you think it was about that particular song that resonated so deeply with the Indonesian audience?

Maybe because this song is full of beats and has deep meaning, so listeners really like this first single.

You navigate the space between gritty punk and melodic pop-punk. How do you balance that raw energy with the catchy hooks we hear in tracks like "4th"?

By uniting the characters of each member who likes various genres such as metal, punk, grunge and pop punk. The 4th song is also a popular song from us, this song was once selected for an editorial playlist on Spotify.

Your 2022 EP The End brought your early work together into one cohesive story. How did the experience of recording a full body of work differ from releasing standalone singles?

If an EP takes quite a long time, while a single is shorter.

With D’Coky handling both vocals and guitar, how do Bagus, Fatrin and Aditz influence the final composition of a song?

Very influential. Because each member has a different playing style and inspiration, so that the character of the song is formed which is typical of the band My Like Sunday.

Segitiga Berdahak (Phlegm Triangle) is a very ... interesting song title. Can you pull back the curtain on the lyrical inspiration or the story behind that specific track from the EP?

This song was inspired by a man who could only admire a woman but could not express his feelings. Then the man could only vent his love and lust in his dreams until he ejaculated.

The music video for "4th" was a significant step for the band. How important do you feel visual storytelling is for My Like Sunday?

Very important, because the visuals can complement the story of the 4th song about the difficulty of finding work in our country.

Your latest release, "Kami Masih Ada" (We Are Still Here), sounds like a defiant statement. Who is that message primarily for — the fans, the industry, or yourselves?

intended for ourselves and the listeners who are waiting for our work

How has the local music scene in Palembang shaped your identity as a band compared to the larger scenes in Jakarta or Bandung?

For indie music in Palembang, especially the punk genre, it is quite active, especially the punk communities in Palembang which regularly hold punk gigs. So that further strengthens our identity to continue working in the Palembang punk music world.

You’ve played some pretty notable venues. What is one thing that happens at a My Like Sunday live show that people can’t get just from listening to your digital tracks?

If you watch us live, you will be treated to crazy acts from us that you won't get when listening to our songs.

Now that "Kami Masih Ada" is out in the world, what is the primary goal for My Like Sunday as you move into 2026?

We are currently preparing a music video for the song Punk Love Story, which is planned to be released in early 2026.

Anyone you'd like to thank?

Thank you to those who always look forward to each of our works.
