We Won’t Rest: An Interview With UK’s Chasing The Fall

By Staff | February 19, 2026

Blending millennial pop-punk nostalgia with a sophisticated, modern edge, Chasing the Fall is a UK-based quartet that prioritizes raw emotional transparency and collective synergy. Comprised of Becki, Phil, Andy, and Matty, the group has evolved from their "boppy" origins into a more mature sonic territory, fearlessly integrating heavy riffs with unexpected textures like live cello and acoustic arrangements. Their recent validation on BBC Radio 1 and Kerrang! playlists signals a band hitting their stride, a growth further fueled by the professional discipline they absorbed while touring with veterans like Skindred. Whether they are exploring the vulnerable concept of finding home in their standout single "The Show" or bringing their high-impact, show-stopping energy to US audiences for the first time, the band remains anchored by a strictly democratic creative process and a heartfelt mission to create a safe, cathartic space for their global fanbase.

Welcome! You mention pulling heavily from early 2000s alt and pop-punk. How do you ensure the music feels like a modern reimagining rather than just a tribute to the past?

Becki Todd, bass: Each of us bring a different early 2000s influence, so really our music is a big mash up of everything! I think this help us keep things modern instead of just a rehash of what we grew up listening to.

Phil McMullin, guitar: For me, I feel it's more a case of "writing what we want to hear". I love combining new school twists and turns with old school conviction and delivery.

Andy McMullin, vocals: Always listening!! To what is coming out and what people are enjoying and trying to mix the two together with a few 00s Easter eggs

Matty Burdett, drums: We generally just do our own thing for the most part in terms of reimagining and we deliver it using pop punk sound and energy!

Supporting a powerhouse like Skindred is no small feat. What was the biggest lesson learned from watching a veteran band like that command a stage every night?

Becki: It was the professionalism for me really that stood out. Skindred were just as awesome off stage as on, but they took everything seriously and that’s the main lesson I learnt from that. It’s not about a Rock n Roll lifestyle of drink, drugs, and all that - it’s about the music and creating something special for everyone in the room that night. And that’s something we try to do in everyone of our shows.

Matty: It was an incredible experience! One thing I learned from those guys is just have fun with it whatever level you’re on

Andy: For me as a front man it was a pleasure watching Benji Webb have 2000 people in the palm of his hand. It was the biggest crowd/venue we ever played and one of the best performances we have put on and we are ready to carry on that level

Phil: I think the biggest lesson I took was use every inch of the stage as your painting/drawing canvas, and ensuring all gaps and blank spots are filled with something the fans can take away.

Seeing your name on the BBC Radio 1 and Kerrang! playlists is a massive "we’ve arrived" moment. How did that validation change your mindset when you went back into the studio for this new music?

Matty: We just want to do more and more but even better! We won’t rest until we’ve had 50 bangers played on major radios

Andy: They’re huge things to do in the UK so I personally thought our music is here .. mixing with the best right now !!! And we can’t wait to get on there again

Phil: It made me really breakdown the construction of a song and go over parts with a fine-toothed comb before allowing them into the final song arrangement.

Becki: We’re not just writing this music for ourselves anymore! So when we’re writing and in the studio, we’re thinking about how it hits with our fans too and how we’re going to play it live.

You’re heading across the pond for a three-date run this month. Why was now the right time to test the waters in the US, and what are you most nervous (or excited) about regarding American crowds?

Becki: Chasing The Fall is growing, we’re playing further than we have in the UK so why not take that over the water too!

Matty: We travel around the UK often playing shows in new places and people like what we do! I don’t know what to expect from the American crowds but we’re ready and I’m very excited to meet them!

Andy: Our music stems from early 00s American made bands as an influence and we keep seeing the same age bracket and demographic like our music from over in the states so as soon as the opportunity came we jumped at it !!

Phil: I'm constantly receiving DM's and comments on TikTok asking "when are you coming to the US, you guys would kill it, etc etc" So what time better than the present, right? I'm not nervous, more apprehensive, we're not not new to the game, but are new to performing out of the country....I just hope we get crowds like "The American Pie frat parties" from the films.

With Andy, Becki, Phil, and Matty all in the mix, what does the internal veto process look like? Does a song have to be 100% unanimous before it makes the cut?

Phil: We create a tabled "final mix sheet" with each member expressing their say on what needs to be changed etc etc. To steal your word, a unequivocal unanimous decision must be reached before any release goes live.

Matty: Yes everybody has to be on board with every little thing before we move forward with anything. There are no egos or stupid ideas in this band so the decision making is always smooth and easy for us.

Becki: If we don’t all love the song, the we aren’t going to put it out there. So we all have to be behind each release, for sure. We’ve knocked back some track because they didn’t feel right or we didn’t resonate with them anymore. But we always end up writing something bigger and better.

Andy: It’s super fun how we write and record … it all starts with a long drive and a few muddled up words that turn into a melody, that turn into a riff and a beat and something we can be proud of at the end. Our newest stuff is sick.

You’ve said that honesty is at the core of the band. Is there a specific track in the upcoming run of releases that felt particularly vulnerable or difficult to write?

Matty: Our latest single “The Show” answers this question perfectly! Powerful and straight from the heart! Our songs make you head bang but with this one we really want you to feel what we feel when it comes to what we do and why we do it

Andy: The Show is the most honest song we have ever written. It’s about feeling at home somewhere and for a lot of people that is at a show, a place you won’t get judged or looked down on and can act normal !

Becki: The Show was the song that pushed us really. It’s different from anything we’ve done before and those lyrics really hit hard. It’s about finding that feeling of being at home at a gig where, no matter what is going on in the world outside, you feel accepted, safe, and apart of something. That’s really what we want our shows and our music to be about!

Phil: Yes, our latest release "The Show". It was our chance to take off the body armor of fast riff's and the brash delivery, and just "let go, and let our hearts poor out"

Having grown up on the US-centric sounds of bands like New Found Glory, do you find that your UK-based perspective adds a different flavor or grit to the genre?

Phil: Not really, I just write and play, and whatever comes out, comes out.

Andy: It’s like calling a “chip” over in the states a “crisp” over here 😂 they’re the same thing but we keep adding different crazy flavours

Becki: The UK scene is really still driven by what’s coming out of the States. There’s lots of Americanized accents and a lot of straight up copies of 00s skate punk bands. Don’t get me wrong, we’re definitely still influenced by American bands, but we are still trying to wear our Britishness with pride. Look at Jeff – that’s as British as they come really!

Matty: I don’t think it really makes a difference where we are to be honest! The genre as a whole is simply driven by emotion delivered in a fun way and that’s something anybody anywhere can enjoy or relate to.

How does this upcoming run of new music differ from your debut EP? Is the sound leaning heavier, more melodic, or perhaps more experimental?

Becki: We spend a lot more time on making sounds more modern and trying out different ideas than we did. So we build on ideas together, spend more time thinking about how it develops, how we keep the energy going too. We would never have added a cello to a track on the debut EP, but now look at us. We’re adding strings, piano, and more sounds to our upcoming music!

Andy: It was all “fun” & “boppy” to start with and I feel it’s maturing, not being afraid of trying something and really experimenting.

Matty: Our more recent recordings are actually leaning a tad bit more on the heavy side but we’re still keeping it pop punk!

Phil: I'd say we're definitely experimenting more nowadays. Our latest release "The Show" features a live cello player, a "bloody good one" at that, and a heavily featured acoustic guitar. We've a song coming out soon which includes the odd guitar harmony, down-tuned guitars, a counter vocal on the middle 8 (bridge section), stuff we've not really delved into in prior releases.

For those in the US who are seeing you for the first time this month, if you had to describe a Chasing The Fall live show in only three words, what would they be?

Phil: I'm going to hyphenate two words and turn it into one split word (if I can): show-stopping, explosive, emotional.

Matty: Energetic, fun and memorable!

Andy: High-impact, raw, cathartic.

Becki: Expect something big!

Once you’re back from the States and the new music is out in the world, what is the next goal for the band for the rest of 2026?

Becki: We’ll be hitting the studio pretty much straight after the US, then picking back up on our UK tour! But we’ll be working towards releasing our second EP next year.

Andy: We have a catalogue of songs that we are super excited about !! So we are hitting the studio a couple weeks after we get back… maybe show a couple labels what we have ? And keep writing and putting the best music we can out there

Phil: For me, try and get onto a major label! Because who wouldn't wanna do that, right?!

Matty: Keep making more music and go back to the US and other countries!

Anyone out there you’d like to thank?

Phil: Special thanks to Jonny Price of Lower Lane Studios for his amazing production on all of our tracks, and the odd collab on a couple too! Jenni (our UK manager and photographer, for helping steer this big ol' ship and her phenomenal eye for camera-work!) Lastly, to the fans for making this all worth it!

Matty: Big shout out to our producer Jonny Price. Our manager/photographer Jenni for all the hard work she does! And most importantly to all our fans who come out to shows and listen.

Becki: There’s really no one to thank more than our fans – the people who listen to us, the people who drive hours and hours to our shows…they’re the people that make all of this possible. They’re who we keep pushing and writing for. There aren’t enough words to put into a song that can really tell you guys how much each and everyone of you mean to us, but we hope that The Show is a good start to thanking each and every one of you.

Andy: We would like to thank everyone who streams our music, turns up to our shows, buys our merch and keeps making this unreal journey worth it
