Glithc's high-energy hardcore is the type of live experience that knocks you down, and then picks you up again (perhaps to be knocked down again in an endless loop). With Stephen (drums), Larry (guitar), Jamie (bass) and fronted by Gigi on lead vocals, the band rejects societal norms that tell us all to play things safe. In their music and their attitude, they refuse to, and if you don't like it, well, fuck outta here ...
Welcome! What's one thing about your live shows or general vibe that would make a listener say "yeah, these guys are definitely from NYC"?
Our live shows and material in general is very New York minute. you blink you missed it. The attitude behind it all couldn't be anymore "fuck outta here" (accent included)
How do you turn hardcore into a space where people can actually feel safe and free?
Hardcore was never meant to be baby proofed … it’s the camaraderie that provides "safety". If it's true freedom you desire free yourself from mental slavery. The universe will take care of the rest. We welcome all who want to have fun. We will always believe in traditional philosophies of "if someone falls down, help them up" without hesitation, no matter who it is.
What's one unique thing that each of you brings to the band?
Stephen: He'll keep a beat that has you jumping thru time & space like you've just been drag-racing getting whiplash in a DeLorean. Mix that with his dry humor, witty personality, & dedication to making the percussion section an entire experience, you are sure to be vibrating from your feet to your face, and loving every minute.
Larry: Known for more than thrashing on guitar, he is the brains, the mad scientist, the producer. A true artist, his ear for music is an innate gift that he can't help but get out into the world. His meticulous efforts in precision & bringing the band together to highlight each member's strength within the unit is a prime example of "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts." He has an eye for mastery, & the results speak for themselves.
Jamie: Really bringing the soul of the bass guitar to life like a resurrection, each lick of every bassline breathes fresh air into our music, elevating it to another level. His fun-loving spirit is always shining through & spiking every song like hot strong coffee in a cemetery on a crisp sunny morning. Yeah, you will feel it in your bones.
Gigi: Equal parts diva & fireball, our enigmatic frontwoman's wild, playful nature will draw you in & bring you on an adventure with her feral charm, inviting you to be completely captivated, like a ship to a siren 🧜♀️, all while you enjoy every second of the high-energy thrill. Make no mistake- having fun is ALWAYS a requirement.
What would you like someone to take away from one of your shows?
We leave pieces of ourselves in all our music. If that reminds you there's still something inside you that's been fighting to get out, then grab it. Feed it. Protect it. The world is full of people who'll tell you to be quieter, smaller, safer. Screw that. Be loud. Be relentless. Be exactly who you are. We don't just want people walking away thinking, "that was a good show." We want them walking out feeling like they got punched in the chest in the best way possible.
We hope people walk away respecting the craft. Great music isn't an accident. It's built through obsession, sacrifice, failure, and showing up over and over until it feels like lightning. That's what we bring, and if you feel even a fraction of that when you leave, then we've done what we came here to do. Every performance is everything we got. We don't just play music, we leave scars. We hope your antennas pick up our frequency.
What would you say is the most important difference between you now and the band that first started?
The dream became reality. We work hard we play hard, so you can dance hard, and we got more for ya's coming in 2027!
With all the chaos in the world today, why is having fun still so important to what you do?
Being creative and imaginative keeps us youthful and happy. Sharing it is a privilege and an honor. Receiving a proper hardcore punk rock response will only further cultivate fun for all. And that is the ultimate goal.
What piece of advice would you give to a band just starting out?
Listen to the elders. We still do. They have guided us for decades. That torch gets around, and rightfully so. Dream big, rock hard, rock fast and keep that fire going !
I lived in Tottenville for a while (long time ago). Do people still call Staten Island The Rock? Just curious.
